Timur, aka Tamerlane (1336-1405). Founder of the Timurid Empire, vaunted ancestor of the Mughals, great conqueror, military genius, Uzbek national hero. Gotta love a man who can make piles of skulls wherever he goes. <3
Johann Trollmann (1907-1943) was a German Sinto boxer, popular in the 20’s.
He was stripped of his German light-heavyweight champion title by Nazi officials in 1933 because according to them, he “danced” like a gypsy and did not fight like an Aryan. He came to the rescheduled match as a caricature of an Aryan. He dyed his hair blonde and covered himself with white flour. He stood still and took every punch without fighting back, until he collapsed after five rounds.
In 1939 he was sent to a concentration camp. After suffering years of abuse, he was beaten to death with a shovel by another prisoner and died in 1942.
This is a portrait of French Romantic painter Leon Riesener, by his cousin, French Romantic painter Eugene Delacroix
